The Cast Of 'DARK SHADOWS' – New Image Released!

By on 23 September, 2011

This official image (via Entertainment Weekly) shows the cast of Tim Burton‘s gothic movie adaptation of the ABC daytime drama, called ‘Dark Shadows‘!

The promo shot comes as Warner Bros. attempts to recover some of the damage caused by the wildfire bad press that swept the internet last week, in reaction to this image of Johnny Depp (see below) taken from the set of the movie.

The latest image shows Depp, who plays Barnabas Collins in the movie (pictured centre), looking a lot more like Jonathan Frid‘s incarnation, and this may settle some murmurs in the industry.

Depp reportedly campaigned for this project, and die-hard fan Burton knew that this version had to capture the essence of the original.

Speaking about the shot of the key cast members, the director tells EW:

“I remember seeing a group photograph of the cast of the original series.

“For me it captured the weird Dark Shadows vibe in a single image. I had a brief window of opportunity to have our cast present at the same time, the day before principle photography began. We decided to stage a similar picture instead of rehearsing, to see if we captured the Dark Shadows feeling.”

So, has the image managed to conjure up the feeling of the original?

Here’s a breakdown of the characters featured in the main image (left to right):

Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter): A prim and proper psychiatrist who has taken up residence with the Collins family to care for their troubled youngest boy. But her character is quite partial to “a drink or two”. Aren’t we all?

Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Grace Moretz): Daughter of Elizabeth (Michelle Pfeiffer) and a typical early-1970s human teenager, but one with her own peculiarities.

Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green): The villain, a witch and former lover of Barnabas who cursed him to be a vampire. Her life’s mission is to destroy the Collins family.

David Collins (Gulliver McGrath): Son of Roger (Jonny Lee Miller). Lonely, confused, and neglected by his pompous father, he claims to see dead people.

Vitoria Winters (Bella Heathcote): David’s new governess whom becomes swept up in the drama thanks to her resemblance to Barnabas‘ lost love.

Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp): An 18th century gentleman transformed into a vampire and buried for in a tomb for two centuries. He emerges in 1972 to seek out his descendants.

Mrs. Johnson (Ray Shirley): The mostly blind, mostly deaf maid, who has been with the family for decades and decades.

Willie Loomis (Jackie Earle Haley): The alcoholic groundskeeper who cares little for his job anymore.

Roger Collins (Jonny Lee Miller): The scion of the once-great Collins family which is now in its nadir. He’s a poor manager of whatever wealth the family retains.

Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer): The matriarch and keeper of the Collins history and a fierce protector of what remains of her family. A very strong woman who unfortunately has been dealt a very difficult deck.

Dark Shadows‘ is released in the States from the 11th May, 2012.

For anyone who hasn’t seen this film, GO AND SEE IT! It’s so funny and Johnny Depp is great in it.
