Garrett Hedlund is on the hunt for his next big role after ‘Tron: Legacy‘, and it now appears that Warner Bros. is in negotiations with the actor to star in their live-action version of ‘AKIRA‘ as the lead character Kaneda – acording to Variety!

Hedlund has been the first choice for Kaneda since the movie was given the official go-ahead last month, and now that the project planning is in full swing the thoughts are now on who will bring these characters to life.

The story will be set in New Manhattan and follows the leader of a biker gang who must save his friend after he is discovered with potentially destructive psychokinetic abilities, from government medical experiments.

Jaume Collet-Serra will helm the project with Steve Kloves penning the latest version of the script. Appian Way‘s Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran are producing with Mad Chance‘s Andrew Lazar.

If there is any truth to Variety‘s report, this project may stand a good chance of being a decent live-action version of the hit manga flick! As with all projects in their early stages, only time will tell!
