Former Bond girl Gemma Arterton and actor ‘The Hurt Locker‘ star Jeremy Renner are teaming up for a modern adaptation of the classic brothers Grimm fairytale ‘HANSEL & GRETEL‘ – Variety reports!

Arterton has been cast as Gretel in Paramount‘s ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters‘, while Renner will play Hansel, with Tommy Wirkola (‘Dead Snow‘) in the director’s chair.

The original take on the fairytale is set 15 years after the siblings killed the witch who kidnapped them. Hansel and Gretel have now evolved into bounty hunters who pursue witches.

D.W. Harper is writing, with Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy, Adam McKay and Kevin J. Messick producing, along with exec producer Denis Stewart.

Filming is set to begin on 7th March 2011 in Berlin, which means that Renner has a very busy schedule in 2011. ‘Hansel and Gretel‘ will be shot in between ‘Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol‘ and ‘The Avengers‘ – both of which are Renner‘s biggest projects this year!
