Movie Bosses Hit Back At ‘BLACK SWAN’ Body-Double Critics!

Movie bosses at Fox Searchlight have issued a statement in response to the growing criticisms/rumours of Natalie Portman‘s Oscar-winning role in ‘Black Swan‘.

Portman scooped the Best Actress Academy Award for her turn as unstable dancer Nina in the movie last month (February 2011), but she has since faced claims a body double was used for most of the complicated ballet dancing scenes.

Sarah Lane, a stand-in performer from the American Ballet Theatre, has fuelled the speculation in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, by claiming :

“Of the full body shots, I would say five per cent are Natalie… I do want people to know that you cannot absolutely become a professional ballet dancer in a year and a half no matter how hard you work. I’ve been doing this for 22 years.”

Now studio bosses have issued a statement to address the criticism, which reads:

“We were fortunate to have Sarah there to cover the more complicated dance sequences and we have nothing but praise for the hard work she did. However, Natalie herself did most of the dancing featured in the final film.”

Portman has yet to comment on the controversy.

The point is we’re not meant to believe a movie star could do complex ballet moves, but more so that a dancer is willing to do almost anything to succeed in her profession.

I think Ms. Lane has lost the point of the movie! Or any other movie for that matter.
