Paramount Lathers Up For A ‘SOAPDISH’ Remake!

Paramount is getting ready to do a remake of 1991 comedy flick ‘Soapdish‘, with original producer Alan Greisman returning to lend a hand – according to The Hollywood Reporter!

Actor/writer Ben Schwartz will pen the updated version of the movie, which originally told of the goings on behind the scenes at a popular (albeit fictitious) daytime soap.

The original, produced by Aaron Spelling and Alan Greisman, included Sally Field, Robert Downey Jr., Teri Hatcher, Kevin Kline, and Whoopi Goldberg among others in the cast.

Greisman will produce along with Rob Reiner.

Schwartz has managed to balance his acting and writing day jobs, with a starring role opposite Don Cheadle on Showtime‘s pilot ‘House of Lies‘. Writing wise, he worked on ‘Robot Chicken‘, and won an Emmy in 2009 for co-writing Hugh Jackman’s opening number for the 81st Academy Awards. He has also performed improv and sketches at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre since 2003, making his own break via his website RejectedJokes.com, which showcased his writing and short films.

So…a remake of a movie which is 20 years old. Isn’t this a bit too soon to be thinking about this?
