SCREAM 4 – Final Stab For The Franchise?

With all the hype surrounding the making and release of ‘Scream 4‘, Kevin Williamson had every intention of this being that start of a brand new trilogy. That is until he left half-way through the project, and questions have been floating around for weeks as to the future of ‘Scream 5’ and ‘Scream 6’. Will Ghostface return for more killings?

The ‘Scream 4‘ box office figures ($18 million / £11 million approx) failed to meet the expectations of the producers, and E! Online believes the content of the movie wasn’t to blame but ultimately because movie bosses had made a sequel to a 15-year-old flick!

The site points out that audiences seem to be warming to remakes rather than sequels lately, and there may be an air of truth in this statement.

A box office analyst at Exhibitor Relations, Jeff Bock, believes that “horror reboots have a better chance of survival in the current cinematic marketplace than continuing sagas. If there is a Scream 5, expect it to be re-titled Scream.”

Film news site Moviehole has done some digging, and they have been told that:

“The Scream franchise will likely end here, at least for the moment.”

But fret not because it could continue as a “direct-to-dvd franchise”! As for Williamson‘s dream for a new trilogy, this “stops here”.
