Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows‘ is the sequel to the first Sherlock Holmes where he was being chased by dinosaurs. At least in this one it’s more him chasing a villain named Professor Moriarty (Harris) who is behind various bomb attacks around Europe.

After noticing the strange bomb attacks and assassinations around Europe, Holmes (Downey, Jr.) decides to investigate and find out who is behind these horrifying attacks and also stop that person carrying out more attacks. Along the way he loses his lover Irene Adler (McAdams) who works for Moriarty but becomes useless to him when she fails to carry out an assassination appropriately due to her feelings for Holmes who appears during the development of the assassination.

But before Holmes goes and finds Moriarty he has the task of arranging a stag party for his good friend and partner Dr. Watson (Law) who is getting married. So he and his brother Mycroft (Stephen Fry) take Watson to a bar where Holmes is actually trying to save another victim, a fortune-telling gypsy named Sim (Rapace) from being assassinated.

After saving her, Holmes receives and invitation to have a one-to-one meeting with Moriarty. During that meeting he advises Holmes that if he persists in investigating him, Watson will become the next target for assassination. In that meeting he also finds out that the reason why Moriarty targeted Sim was because her brother Rene is working with him and she was a liability Moriarty couldn’t afford to have.

Going against his advice Holmes decides to continue with his investigation and rescue mission, consequently putting his good friend Watson and his newly married wife Mary (Reilly) in danger!

Guy Ritchie really did a good job with the film, which is action packed with scenes that would have looked quite good in 3D.

Definitely a great watch and there is a very, very small hint that a part 3 might be on the cards. Ssshhh….!
