Barbra Streisand, Skinny and Cat

Two of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors, Cate Blanchett and Colin Firth, have signed on for a new romantic drama called ‘Skinny and Cat‘, which will be directed by Barbra Streisand – according to Reuters!

The period movie, described as an “epic love story”, follows the real life romance of writer Erskine Caldwell (to be played by Firth) and photographer Margaret Bourke White (to be played by Blanchett). The couple collaborated on three books together, before marrying and then divorcing a few years later.

This movie will see Streisand return to the director’s chair for the first time in 16 years, after the success of her last flick ‘The Mirror Has Two Faces‘ in 1996. She has also helmed, starred in and won an Oscar for ‘Yentl‘, and she also directed herself and Nick Nolte in ‘The Prince of Tides‘.

Both actors are incredibly busy over the next several months, with Firth wrapping up promo duties on ‘Gambit‘ with Cameron Diaz, and ‘The Railway Man‘, with Nicole KidmanBlanchett will have her hands full with Peter Jackson‘s ‘The Lord of  the Rings‘ two-part prequel, and then the promo duties that come with it after the release of the first movie is released later this year!

That said, if all goes well with everyone’s schedule, filming on the new movie is expected to get underway in January 2013.
