Katy Perry Denies Involvement In Freddie Mercury Biopic

Singer Katy Perry has denied rumours which suggest she’s set to portray the girlfriend of flamboyant rocker Freddie Mercury in Sacha Baron Cohen‘s upcoming biopic!

The I Kissed A Girl chart-topper has previously showcased her acting ability on U.S. TV comedy ‘How I Met Your Mother‘, and she also voiced the Smurfette character in 2011’s movie adaptation of ‘The Smurfs‘.

Earlier this year (2012), reports were suggesting that Perry was being lined up to play Mary Austen opposite comedian Cohen, who has signed on to play the Queen frontman, but it looks like there’s no truth in the casting tale.

Speaking to Eonline.com, she says:

“There’s something about the Internet that’s sort of funny – it’s that nothing is true on there. There’s been no formal offer. Although I do like the association and I like the company because I think Sacha Baron Cohen is hilarious.”

Perry has long cited Mercury as one of her biggest music influences and even dressed up as the late rocker to celebrate her 24th birthday.

Katy Perry would be fantastic. She’s a great performer and her energy would fit perfectly on screen.

Not sure whether Katy Perry would be a good choice for this film. Can she act? I don’t think she’ll be winning any acting awards soon.
