NAOMI WATTS To Star As Princess DIANA In Biopic!

Naomi Watts to star as Princess Diana in CAUGHT IN FLIGHT.

British-Australian actress Naomi Watts has apparently been cast to star as Princess Diana in a movie about the late royal’s final two years – according to moviemakers at Ecosse Films.

Producers said the movie, titled ‘Caught in Flight‘ would focus on a period when Diana, the former wife of heir to the throne Prince Charles, found “true personal happiness” shortly before her death in a 1997 car crash in Paris.

Diana married Charles in a glittering ceremony in 1981, but the unhappy marriage ended in 1996. Charles then decided to marry his long-time companion Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005.

Speaking about the casting news, Watts said it was an honour to be able to play the “iconic role”, and adds:

“Princess Diana was loved across the world and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen.”

The movie about the Princess of Wales, who was just 36 when she died, will be directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel – better known for his epic 2004 biopic ‘Downfall‘, which depicted Hitler‘s final days.

He said:

“I am delighted to have such a truly exceptional actress who embodies the warmth, humanity and empathy of such a global icon as Princess Diana.”

Adding to the early praise, Ecosse FilmsRobert Bernstein said:

“It is very exciting to be working to with one of our finest actresses, Naomi Watts, on what will be a powerful and poignant film. She will encompass the role beautifully.”

It is not known whether the biopic will feature Diana‘s relationship with Dodi Fayed, the son of Egyptian tycoon Mohamed Al-Fayed who was the princess’s boyfriend and died with her in the crash.

Production is said to begin later this year, in the U.K.
