STAR WARS – EPISODE 7 Confirmed For 2015 Release!

George Lucas Signs Deal With DISNEY, With STAR WARS Episode 7 To Be Released in 2015 - The Latest Entertainment News Today

With the news this week (30th November, 2012) that Disney has bought LucasFilm for $4.05 billion, no time has been wasted in determining the future of the STAR WARS franchise, and fans may or not be happy to learn that the next epic movie, ‘Star Wars: Episode VII‘ will be released around the world in 2015!

As part of Disney‘s plan going forward, the idea is to not just to have one but to bring three new STAR WARS movies to the big screen, and the studios “have a pretty extensive treatment of the next three movies”, according to chairman and CEO Bob Iger.

He added:

“Episode 7 will be released in 2015, the first under the Disney/Lucas banner”, he said, with Episode 8 and Episode 9 to follow – with the intention of releasing each movie two to three years after the previous release. Disney will also be bringing the Star Wars brand into their parks, with games, rides and “other initiatives”, CFO Jay Rasulo said.

Is this good news? The STAR WARS brand should not be tampered with, but maybe Disney are the best company to take it forward. But the question remains, despite the number of planets and vast numbers of characters, do we really need another STAR WARS movie?

Just in case you missed them, here is the announcement video, and also a video featuring an interview with George Lucas on the future of STAR WARS:
