GROWN UPS 2 – Older Doesn’t Mean Wiser!

GROWN UPS 2 - Movie Review! - TOMORROW'S NEWS - The Latest Entertainment News Today!

The cast of ‘Grown Ups‘ (2010) are back for another slice of comedy pie! If you can remember back to the first movie, Lenny (Adam Sandler) and his family were living in Hollywood. He had moved on from his little hometown and went back for his basketball coaches funeral and Fourth of July weekend where he met up with old friends Kurt McKenzie (Chris Rock), Eric Lamonsoff (Kevin James) and Marcus Higgins (David Spade). The only missing gang member is Rob Schneider.

So the gang have moved back to the hometown and this is set 3 years later. It’s the last day of school for their kids. Kurt’s wife is pregnant, Eric’s is pretending their son is a genius and Marcus well he is still aloof and finds out that he has a son and that he is coming to stay for the summer. Lenny’s wife wants another baby and he is not sure he wants to raise a fourth child.

The gang all go on the school bus to a local K-MART and have some fun playing with various items and cracking couple of typical jokes.

They finally end up at the old river where as kids they used to jump off, the only one that never jumped was Lamonsoff so they tease him into doing it this time. Just before jumping they are warned off by local high school seniors led by Andy (Taylor Lautner) who have decided to claim that part of the land for their fraternity. The men are bullied by the boys and have to jump off the cliff naked. You just know there will be a bit of disaster in this. Let’s just say it involves Kevin James and David Spade!

There is a funny scene with the fabulous Jon Lovitz as a Squats Fitness Janitor when he pretends he is the new instructor. He is found out as the new instructor Kyle (Oliver Hudson) arrives and the girls go to mush and shamelessly flirt with him. Only to find out that he is gay but they still love him.

Nick Swardson steals a few scenes with his comedic timing and plays the school bus driver, and then decides to come out to Kyle. Not to forget what happens when he is looking at inflatable dinghies in K-MART.

There are some laughs in this, some new and fresh ones and some utterly predictable ones. The large tyre rolling down the street is awesome and makes you think to when you did things like that as a kid.

Typical format to the first movie and very typical of Sandler‘s ‘Happy Madison‘, ‘Jack and Jill‘ and ‘Just Go With It‘. It was a fun movie as this time around the kids were teaching the adults a thing or two.

If you are stuck for a movie to watch and its raining outside and you have seen the other summer blockbusters then grab your popcorn and enjoy some slapstick humour. The carwash scene is hilarious.

3 stars out of 5 from me.

I’d like to see Sandler put together a new movie that didn’t just rely on slapstick humour and hapless timing to get a message across. Not as funny as the first as the waterpark scenes is what I remember.

There are more laughs to be had in ‘Despicable Me 2‘ and the Minions than this.
