ANDREW GARFIELD – The New PETER PARKER!

Sony have finally silenced months of casting rumours by announcing Andrew Garfield as their new Peter Parker in the brand new ‘SPIDER-MAN‘ reboot!

Although not an obvious choice by movie gossip sites, he has somewhat of a rapport with the studio – having co-starred in 2008’s ‘The Other Boleyn Girl‘ (which Sony distributed in the U.S.), and last year’s ‘The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus‘ (by Sony Pictures Classics in the U.S.). Garfield can be seen starring alongside Jesse Eisenberg in David Fincher’s ‘The Social Network‘, due for release late this Autumn. He found out the news of his Spidey casting whilst promoting this movie.

Garfield (named by Variety as one of its 10 Actors to Watch back in 2007) managed to beat other high callibre actors to fill Tobey Maguire’s red boots, including Jamie Bell, and Alden Ehrenreich. Each were supposedly “announced” as having secured the role..as well as other potential candidates, such as Josh Hutcherson.
Marc Webb will be directing the 3D ‘Spider-Man‘ pic (with a release date of Summer 2012) and filming is due to start early December 2010.

Speaking about this latest casting announcement, Webb said:

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit and humanity.”

Well done, Andrew!
