Warner Bros. are keen to develop a new Viking themed epic, and they want ‘True Blood‘ star Alexander Skarsgård to star in and produce the project – according to Variety!

Atlas Entertainment pitched the project (working title: ‘The Vanguard‘) to the studio, and Chris Boal is set to pen the script which follows two Viking warrior brothers who toil to return to Sweden after being banished to North America. The rest of the story is obviously being kept under, but they’re hoping for a movie with a ‘Gladiator‘ / ‘Braveheart‘ feel to it.

Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce for Atlas, whose Andy Horwitz and Jake Kurily brought the project in and will be involved in some producer capacity. This will be Skarsgård‘s debut, signaling the studios’ plan to do further joint projects with the actor. Jon Berg and Chris Gary will oversee the project for Warners.

Boal however has his fingers in a few pies, with work beginning on sweeping epic about Roman general Julius Caesar, which Jonathan Liebesman is onboard to direct and Basil Iwanyk will produce. This project is very much in Boal‘s comfort zone as also wrote the play ‘23 Knives’, which concerns Caesar‘s autopsy.
