Ryan Gosling heads up the cast in ‘DRIVE‘, which also includes Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks and the brilliant Ron Pearlman!

The film is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (‘Pusher‘ Trilogy, ‘Bronson‘, ‘Valhalla Rising‘) and based on a book by James Sallis. Refn reportedly got the gig at Gosling‘s request, an indicator of the clout the once indie darling now has in Hollywood.

Gosling plays a stunt car driver for movies (brilliant) who moonlights as a getaway driver (even more brilliant). Obviously this leads to problems, and when he decides to do a job to protect Carey Mulligan’s family from a crime gang, things take a turn for the worse.

“You put this kid behind a wheel, and there’s nothing he can’t do”

The film has been getting positive responses from the festival circuit, and despite the somewhat typically Hollywood storyline, the film looks to me like a cross between the action movies of old, and an art house pic. Refn himself has likened the story to fairytales he used to tell his daughter, Gosling being the knight in shining armour.

The trailer below certainly makes the film look like a fast-paced, and brutal (hammer/bullet/head!) experience, but with the ever-reliable Gosling at the wheel we’re sure this will be a ride to remember.

DRIVE‘ is careering onto UK screens 23rd September. Are you as excited as us? Or are you craving the slower paced Gosling vehicles?
