Melua Admits To Having “A Bit Of A Breakdown”!

Singer Katie Melua has revealed she was hospitalised after suffering “a bit of a breakdown” and admits she is only just getting back on her feet!

The Closest Thing To Crazy hitmaker became famous with her debut album in 2003, but she was forced to cancel a string of tour dates late in 2010 – and now she has revealed why.

The singer was admitted to hospital after falling ill, and she knew she had to take time out from the music scene to fully recharge her batteries.

Melua tells the Daily Mail newspaper:

“I’ve had a bit of a breakdown and been very unwell. It’s a very sensitive subject. I don’t want to go into a lot of detail, but I had to drop out for a bit.

“The fact is, I just couldn’t go on any longer. I knew there was something seriously wrong because I was just sitting in a chair staring into space. I had to drop out, go on holiday and have a rest. The problem is that I love what I’m doing and I can’t stop doing it. But I was working myself into the ground.”

Despite this, Melua insists she is slowly recovering:

“I’ve eased myself back into work over the last few weeks and I start a European tour next month. I am also writing some new songs.”
