Hollywood funnyman Steve Martin has scooped the top prize at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards!

The actor-turned-banjo-player was named entertainer of the year along with his band The Steep Canyon Rangers at the ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday (29th September, 2011).

In true comic form, Martin, who released his first album of banjo tunes in 2009, joked to the crowd at the Ryman Auditorium as he collected the trophy:

“I want to thank all the other nominees… for losing.”

Other winners on the night included supergroup The Boxcars, who walked away with four prizes, including instrumental group of the year and the emerging artist gong, while bandmember Adam Steffey won mandolin player of the year and his bandmate Ron Stewart picked up banjo player of the year.

The Gibson Brothers took home the album of the year award for Help My Brother, as well as vocal group of the year.
