Joan Rivers’ Advice To Gay Stars – “Stay In The Closet!”

Joan Rivers has caused controversy by urging gay stars not to reveal their true sexuality – because ‘coming out’ could damage their career. While this won’t be anything new to the odd singer / actor, ‘coming out’ is a risk that most seem comfortable doing.

However, the outspoken comedienne is adamant showbusiness is still difficult for homosexual stars, and she’s convinced they would be better off keeping their love life private until they become well-established as an artist. And Rivers uses singer Ricky Martin (who came out as gay in March 2010 after years of speculation) as an example.

She tells The Advocate:

“If you’re going to be a romantic idol and try to get every teenage girl to love you, then you’d be an a** to come out and say you’re gay. Ricky Martin was so smart. He did what he did, made his millions and then he said, ‘Guess what, everybody? I’m gay…’ It didn’t matter anymore because he didn’t have to bring in 16-year-old girls.”

Good ole Joan! Not one to mince her words…
