MEL C Believes “Sexy” Pop Stars Should Tone It Down!

By on 1 August, 2011

Singer Melanie Chisholm (a.k.a. Mel C) has blasted singers Lady Gaga and Katy Perry for their raunchy routines on stage – claiming that this sets a bad example for young fans!

Chisholm, who made her name as a member of the Spice Girls, admits she’s shocked by the number of chart-toppers who use provocative images to help sell their music, because she believes it is possible for a female singer to be successful without flaunting too much flesh.

She says:

“It sends the wrong message to teenage girls. Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Britney Spears have great voices and don’t need to take their clothes off. Young fans can be impressionable. Sometimes people go a little too far.

“Sex has always been sold. It seems that now it has become very prevalent in pop music.”

Is having a great singing voice enough to be successful, in a world where image matters?
