They say all good things must come to an end, and sadly it seems that the eighth season of ‘Desperate Housewives‘ will be the final one – according  to Deadline!

The ABC network are apparently due to make an announcement to the Television Critics Association on Sunday that the lovely women of Wisteria Lane will be making their last appearance in the upcoming 2011-2012 season. Key cast members have reportedly only just been told, and Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Eva Longoria are said to be “shocked and saddened” – particularly after the show’s creator, Marc Cherry, believed the show would likely carry on until at least a ninth season.

ABC Studios fought tooth and nail to renegotiate the contracts for the four main actresses to return, and even included an option for an extra season. The eighth season, due to premiere in the States on Sunday, 25th September 2011, is the first series without Cherry after he stepped down as exec producer at the end if season seven.

The show has managed to hold on to most of its fans through-out the seven seasons, winning multiple Emmy and SAG (Screen Actors Guild) awards, and it was the most-watched comedy series outside the U.S. – with an impressive average of around 51.6 million viewers across 68 countries!

I for one will be very sad to see the end of this show, and soon the old question of “Which housewife are you?” may finally disappear with it ūüôĀ

Out of all the housewives, I’d have to say my favourite is Gabi (played by Longoria). Other than identifying with her hispanic background, she probably has the best one-liners and wit out of the other cast members. But they’re all great (sorry to sit on the fence)!
