MAZZARA To Take Over From Darabont On ‘WALKING DEAD’!

After the shock exit of Frank Darabont from ‘The Walking Dead‘, fans and industry watchers were beginning to wonder who would take over the hit show. But fear not, as Deadline is reporting that exec producer Glen Mazzara will be taking over the project!

According to sources close to the AMC‘s hit zombie drama, Mazzara, who joined the show at the beginning of Season 2 as Darabont‘s second in command, will now indeed be the series’ new showrunner!

He will still remain as an executive producer alongside Robert Kirkman, on whose comic the series is based, and Gale Anne Hurd. What isn’t clear is whether Darabont will stay on as an exec producer role – these discussions are reportedly on-going.

Darabont told Deadline last month:

“We hired Glen Mazzara as our Number 2 in the room.

“We consider him our head writer and he’s just a fantastic asset.”

Despite the shake-up at the top, it has been business as usual on the second season of ‘The Walking Dead‘, and the series is still set to premiere on the 16th October, 2011. Mazzara has been part of the project since the first season when he wrote one of the six episodes as a freelancer. He recently served as showrunner on the first season of Starz‘s ‘Crash‘ and the second season of ‘Hawthorne‘.

Will there be a difference in quality?
