DAVID TENNANT To Lead New ITV1 Drama Series!

David Tennant looks set to lead an ensemble cast for a new ITV1 drama about the death of a boy in a picturesque seaside resort – according to Broadcast!

 

The former Doctor Who actor will play DI Alec Hardy in the eight 60-minute episode series Broadchurch, which also includes ‘Twenty Twelve‘ star Olivia Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Vicky McClure and Will Mellor.

Written and created by Chris Chibnall (‘United‘, ‘Torchwood‘), the drama focuses on a small British community that finds itself at the heart of a national police investigation and media frenzy.

Coleman will play a local detective who is emotionally involved in the case, which draws in nearly every member of the Broadchurch community, who battle to maintain the integrity of the town.

 

Richard Stokes will serve as producer, while Chibnall and Jane Featherstone will exec produce.
 

Speaking about the project, Featherstone said:

“The drama is a snapshot of modern Britain. Its community represents a microcosm of life as we know it.”

 

Chibnall added:

“It’s a story of scale and intimacy, as the lives of the characters are laid bare.”

 

Broadchurch‘ will be filmed on location in Portishead from August, 2012.
