PETER CAPALDI - The New DOCTOR! - TOMORROW'S NEWS - The Latest Entertainment News Today!

The BBC has announced Peter Capaldi is the Twelfth Doctor Who, and the news was broadcast both in the UK and the U.S. simultaneously. He was apparently the only actor to be considered in the part.

The actor will be regenerating into the famous Time Lord role in the Christmas special later this year, taking over from current Doctor Who, Matt Smith.

Speaking earlier in the reveal TV show, ‘Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor‘, Smith said:

“If I had to pick someone I’d pick him.”

Capaldi is currently filming the BBC drama’The Musketeers‘, and he will also be seen in Disney’s upcoming ‘Maleficent‘ with Angelina Jolie. This won’t be the first time that Capaldi has experienced life in a Doctor Who episode, as he played Caecillius, a merchant in Ancient Rome, in the 2008 episode ‘The Fires of Pompeii‘.

At a whopping 798 episodes (so far), Doctor Who is the longest running sci-fi series in TV history, with William Hartnell starring in the role of the first Doctor back in 1963.

Filming on the new season of Doctor Who is scheduled to kick off in October 2013, with Capaldi‘s debut as the Doctor to broadcast in 2014.
