JACKMAN Starring As VALJEAN In LES MISERABLES Movie?

Aussie actor Hugh Jackman is reportedly helmer Tom Hooper‘s top choice to play Jean Valjean in a big-screen musical version on the hit stage show ‘Les Miserables‘!

The King’s Speech‘ filmmaker Tom Hooper (who scooped the Best Director Oscar for his work on the movie starring Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter) will direct the project and Jackman is reportedly his favourite to play the man released from prison who re-invents his life and becomes a wealthy factory owner and mayor during the French Revolution.

However, despite Jean Valjean‘s efforts to move away from his past, police officer Javert is continually on his trail throughout the movie and British actor Paul Bettany has apparently already auditioned for the role.

William Nicholson (‘Gladiator‘) has penned the screenplay for the movie which is being produced by Cameron Mackintosh – who originally put the stage show together. Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will also be working on the project.

The story was seen in a non-musical version on the big screen back in 1998, and starred Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush.
