A day after the OSCAR nominations, and Viola Davis has unleashed some fighting talk ahead of her upcoming battle with Meryl Streep at the Oscars next month (February 2012)!

Streep is strongly tipped to take home the gong for Best Actress for her portrayal of Baroness Margaret Thatcher in ‘The Iron Lady‘, but Davis has generated a healthy fan-base of her own ahead of the glitzy ceremony in Los Angeles.

Davis, who is nominated for her role in drama ‘The Help‘, joked with CNN‘s ‘Showbiz Tonight‘ that she’s ready to take on Streep, saying:

“Friendly competition – although, I can whoop Meryl Streep’s behind in a good, old-fashioned street fight. Now, as far as the Oscars, I’m not sure about that”.

On a serious note, Davis described Streep as someone she “loves more than anyone”, but is still hoping for a win at the Academy Awards. She has already landed a string of awards for her role in ‘The Help‘, including the North Texas Film Critics Award for Best Actress, the Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival Award for Outstanding Performance.

But the recent Golden Globes broke the winning streak, as she lost out to Streep in the Best Actress category.

Other fantastic actresses joining Davis and Streep in the category for Best Actress at the Oscars include Michelle Williams and Rooney Mara.
