KIM CATTRALL Offended By RICKY GERVAIS’ Cheap Ageist Joke!

Kim Cattrall has taken a verbal swipe at Ricky Gervais for making a “cheap” joke about the ‘Sex And The City‘ actresses at the recent Golden Globes, branding the gag upsetting and ageist!

The British funnyman caused controversy during his hosting duties at the awards show by poking fun at the star-studded audience in a number of barbed jibes.

His performance provoked outrage from a number of celebrities, as well as event organisers, who labelled the jokes “totally unacceptable”. During the show, he ridiculed the stars of ‘Sex and the City 2‘ by making fun of a publicity poster for the movie, telling the audience:

“I was sure the Golden Globe for special effects would go to the team that airbrushed that poster. Girls, we know how old you are. I saw one of you in an episode of (1960s TV show) Bonanza.”

But Cattrall failed to see the funny side, admitting the remarks about the actresses’ ages upset her.

She tells Extra:

“Ageism is out there and I fight it every day in my own way… So, I think that’s kind of a cheap joke… Maybe some people feel that needs to be out there. I don’t particularly think so.”

I personally am in two minds about his performance. On the one hand, he was entertaining, but it’s an all too familiar quality with a handful of comedians today who use gender, sexuality or age to base their gags on.

This I feel is lazy comedy, but I could be wrong?

Gervais aside, the ‘Sex and the City 2‘ poster DID look too airbrushed for your average promotional material.
