Jeremy Renner Considering Wikileaks Movie, Latest Entertainment News Today

Jeremy Renner is reportedly in talks with DreamWorks about playing Julian Assange in a WikiLeaks movie!

The ‘Avengers Assembe‘ star has been approached by the studio to play the controversial founder of the international online organisation responsible for leaking government documents, and they are also eyeing up ‘Twilight‘ helmer Bill Condon to direct the movie, according to Deadline.com.

The production company has secured the rights to two tell-all books in February (2013), Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website by Daniel Domscheit-Berg and WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy, by David Leigh and Luke Harding, in order to research material for the movie.

Two-time Oscar-nominee and Assange look-a-like Renner, 41, seems the ideal candidate to play the WikiLeaks founder, who established the infamous website in 2006 and is currently battling legal troubles. Assange‘s latest chapter saw him seeking asylum in Ecuador’s embassy in the UK, where he is ”under the protection of the Ecuadorian state”, according to the South American country’s authorities.

Other studios are also have WikiLeaks movies in the pipeline, with Universal and Marc Shmuger making an Alex Gibney-directed documentary, whilst HBO, Universal and Megan Ellison are also working on movies.

Does Hollywood really need to produce a movie each and every time there is a major news/political event? Come on, how about a putting some more fiction on the big screen?!

I agree Jen, he’s a great actor. I’m just not so sure whether he’s right for the role, but as you said, we’ll have to wait and see.

Isn’t Jeremy Renner more of an action man? Personally I don’t see that much of a resemblance between him and Assange.

Sorry Mike, I’d have to disagree. I think he’s more than capable of taking on this role – serious or action-based. We’ll see what happens.
