Viggo Mortensen has turned down the male lead in ‘Snow White and the Huntsman‘, ending months of negotiation and speculation with Universal – according to Variety!

The movie, which is being produced by Joe Roth and directed by Rupert Sanders, stars Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron. It was scheduled to start shooting sometime this autumn and set for a 21 December, 2012, release.

But now that Mortensen has dropped out of this project, this could technically pave the way him to take the role of the villain in Warner Bros.‘ ‘Superman: Man of Steel‘ – scheduled begin filming around the same time as ‘Snow White‘.

Warner Bros. have yet to comment on this recent development, but director Zack Snyder is reportedly interested in Mortensen to star in his Superman reboot.
