Hanks Boards CAPTAIN RICHARD PHILLIPS Somali Pirate Hijack Flick!

Tom Hanks is set to star in Columbia Picturesuntitled movie adaptation of Captain Richard Phillips and his harrowing ordeal as a Somali pirate hostage (a true story) – according to ComingSoon.net!

Phillips captained the MV Maersk Alabama, which was hijacked in April of 2009 by Somali pirates. Brave Phillips offered himself as a hostage to protect his crew and spent three days a prisoner before being rescued by a team of U.S. Navy SEALS.

The project was announced last year, and will be based on Phillip‘s memoir – titled A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at Sea.

Michael DeLuca, Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti and Scott Rudin will serve as producers.
