CAESAR Begins! Warner Bros. Planning A New Roman Epic.

According to Deadline, it seems that Warner Bros. Pictures and Thunder Road are teaming up to create a new dramatic epic about the famous Roman emperor, Julius Caesar!

Although not entirely a biopic, this movie will focus on Caesar‘s younger years, particularly focussing on the period when he was sent to Spain on a mission no-one else wanted. It was there where he built the tenth legion fighting force which would eventually march on Rome, over-run his rival Pompey, and establish himself as the ruler of the empire.

Billed as a two-part movie, the first flick is likely to end with his coronation and the sequel would show his trip to Egypt and eventual assassination. In other words, these two movies will serve as a retelling of the story which the first season of HBO‘s ‘Rome‘ was based on – not to be confused with William Broyles-scripted adaptation of Conn Iggulden‘s novel trilogy.

Chris Boal has been hired to pen the script, with Jonathan Liebesman (‘Battle: Los Angeles‘) sitting in the director’s chair. Basil Iwanyk will produce.
