The 85TH ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS – The Nominations!

OSCARS Nominations 2013 - TOMORROW'S NEWS - The Latest Entertainment News Today!

The nominees for the 85th Annual Academy Awards were announced this morning by the show’s host Seth MacFarlane and actress Emma Stone earlier today (10th January, 2013), and ‘LINCOLN‘ has topped the leader board with a total of 12 nominations!

Life of Pi‘ has 11 nominations, while ‘Les Miserables‘ and ‘Silver Linings Playbook‘ have a total of 8 nominations each. Argo has 7 nominations, and Zero Dark Thirty, Amour and SKYFALL each have 5 nods apiece.

Some of the big surprises were directors such as Kathryn Bigelow, Tom Hooper and Christopher Nolan – none of whom made it into the Best Director category. Even Ben Affleck was overlooked for his movie ‘Argo‘. British actresses Helen Mirren and Judi Dench also failed to get Oscar recognition this year – Mirren for her role in ‘HITCHCOCK, and Dench for her final outing as M in the most successful James Bond movie ever, ‘SKYFALL‘.

Nominations which weren’t too much of a surprise included the Best Actor nod to Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway‘s Best Supporting Actress nod, both of whom were one of the strongest performers in ‘Les Miserables‘. And not forgetting the fabulous Daniel Day-Lewis in the Best Actor in a leading role category for his role in ‘LINCOLN, for which he is strongly tipped to take home the prize for.

The OSCARS for outstanding film achievements of 2012 will be presented on Sunday, 24th February 2013, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and will be broadcasting live on the ABC Television Network. The prize-giving ceremony will also be televised live in more than 225 countries worldwide.
