Aussie actress Melissa George has been chosen as the lead in a new spy thriller series ‘Nemesis aka Morton‘ at BBCCinemax – according to Deadline!

The suspense thriller, masterminded by former ‘X-Files‘ exec producer Frank Spotnitz, centres on a highly skilled operative (played by George) for an elite private intelligence firm who survives an attempt on her life that might have been orchestrated by members of her own team. Think of a female Bourne Identity and you’ll get the idea.

S.J. Clarkson will direct the first two episodes of the series, which will start production this autumn in Europe and North Africa. BBC One commissioned eight episodes back in January 2011.

Cinemax is co-producing with Kudos Film and Television – the geniuses behind BBC‘s ‘SPOOKS‘ over the past ten years.

This won’t be George‘s first stint playing a spy, as ‘ALIAS‘ fans will recall that she featured in the third season as secret agent.
