The 88TH ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS | Full Winners List!
The 88th Annual Academy Awards was hosted by Chris Rock, and the outcome appeared to be as predicted – where the biggest winners of the night (28 February, 2016) were ‘Max Max: Fury Road‘ and ‘Spotlight‘. As expected, Rock didn’t shy away from the lack-of-diversity issue, #OscarsSoWhite, that had been extensively reported in the run-up to the awards, and he addressed this in his entertaining opening monologue.
‘Mad Max: Fury Road‘ swept the boards by taking six gongs including Best Costume, Best Makeup and Best Sound Editing. ‘Spotlight‘ took home the biggest prize of the night – the Best Picture award. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu won the Best Director prize, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio who took the Best Actor award (his first Oscar) – both for the ‘The Revenant‘.
Lady Gaga, although losing out to Sam Smith in the Best Song prize, gave an emotional performance which also included survivors of sexual violence who joined her on-stage.
Best Documentary went to the controversial ‘Amy‘, and the Best Animated Feature gong went to ‘Inside Out‘.
