DISNEY’S THE LONE RANGER – Every Cloud Has A Silver Lining!

FILM REVIEW - THE LONE RANGER 2013. TOMORROW'S NEWS - The Latest Entertainment News Today!

I was lucky enough to attend the UK Premiere of Disney’s ‘The Lone Ranger‘ and walk up the Red, err black and white carpet and stand shoulder to shoulder with the stars.

I hadn’t read any reviews for the film and only seen one trailer so thank goodness that is all I had. Our American cousins didn’t like it, it bombed with the critics and audiences and I cannot understand why?

Directed by Gore Verbinski

Starring:

Johnny Depp

Armie Hammer

William Fichtner

Tom Wilkinson,

Helena Bonham Carter

Ruth Wilson

Disney was quite brave to retell a story that most people over the age of 35 grew up with on their TV screens. Would this work?, would this be a big flop?

The Lone Ranger - REVIEW. TOMORROW'S NEWS - The Latest Entertainment News Today!

Native American warrior Tonto (Depp) narrates the untold tales which transformed John Reid (Hammer), a Texas Ranger and Man of the Law, into a legend of justice.

It’s 1930 and a young boy is at a fairground where he meets an elderly Tonto to hear the tale of John Reid, the Lone Ranger. John is on his way to his home town when the train he is travelling on is attacked as it is carrying some precious cargo – the notorious Butch Cavendish who is supposed to hang in the town for his crimes. Tonto and Butch are tied up in the same car and this is where the two meet when Butch’s goons capture them both and tie them up together.

An idealistic District Attorney, John and his brother and fellow Texas Rangers ride in pursuit of Butch. Ambushed and left for dead, John is rescued by the renegade Comanche, Tonto, at the doggedness of a white horse. Tonto offers to help bring Cavendish to justice as he has a score to settle with him.

Tonto makes John wear a mask, which he is reluctant to do.

John and Tonto learn that Cavendish is only a small part of a far greater injustice and the pair must fight it in an adventure that will make them legends.

At the start of the premiere Jerry Bruckheimer advised that the film was shot on location in Mexico and not in a studio. This really worked for this film. It is an amazing array of daredevil stunts and laughs and humour. You will have a great roller coaster ride of emotions by the time you leave the cinema.

Helena Bonham Carter is awesome as Red Harrington and her final scenes with Barry Pepper as Fuller are brilliant. I have to admit I loved the horse who played Silver – he is just so funny throughout. I had feared that Depp would be typecast and try to play the role a little like Captain Jack Sparrow – not to be. Depp was out shone by Hammer and a horse.

I have to give this movie 5 stars out of 5!

It was awesome, breathtaking in places and very funny which I didn’t expect. It was also nice to find out more about how John Reid became the Lone Ranger.

This movie reminded me so much of the old Westerns that I used to watch as a kid, starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. It was nice to be taken back to something with stunts and not much CGI.

Don’t trust the reviews that you have heard about this – go and see if for yourself. You might be pleasantly surprised at just how good this is.

As for my other love of LEGO, Disney have licensed this for LEGO production and the sets actually are quite good and reasonably priced.
