Ted’s Got Soul In ‘TED 2’ | MOVIE REVIEW

Another movie about the talking bear and his thunder buddy Johnny played by Mark Wahlberg.

The film opens with Flash Gordon conducting the Wedding of TED (Seth Macfarlane) and Tami Lyn (Jessica Barth). This isn’t a spoiler as you see it in the trailer!

The premise of this sequel is around TED and Tami Lyns‘ life together. If you remember in the first Lori (Mila Kunis) wasn’t happy that Johnny and Ted spent a lot of time together well it’s the opposite here.

We move on from the wedding and reception to an opening song and dance number that play homage to MacFarlane‘s animated ‘Family Guy‘ opening and really could have done with being a bit shorter. It was camper than the cock in a frock on a rock in ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert‘. I was half expecting Stewie and Peter Griffin and the cast of ‘American Dad‘ to appear on the screen.

A year passes and not so newly weds TED and Tami Lyn decide to have a baby. This is where it all starts to go wrong for the couple and TED had to prove that his difference isn’t much different after all! The question is, is he property or a person?

TED and Johnny meet Sam L Jackson (Amanda Seyfried) who takes on their case to prove TED is in fact a person. The fun and story are all wrapped up in the story that ensues. It’s very smart of MacFarlane to throw in human rights issues and in a compelling and downright funny story. This will hopefully make Americans understand what their country is currently going through.

There are plenty of jokes and references to the first movie. Donny (Giovanni Ribisi) is back and is still wanting a TED of his own.

TED 2‘ wasn’t as formulaic as I thought it might be. It felt slow and long in places but it was great to have a small pause in between some hilarious and close to the bone moments.

The plot moves from Boston to New York, and the road trip really will have you in stitches and vying for an oxygen mask. The scenes at New York Comic Con were surreal.

There are some nice references to the 80s here – see if you can spot the homage to ‘The Breakfast Club‘ and the Tiffany song is back! MacFarlane is onto another winner with this movie. It’s fresh and funny, and you can relate to the story in some way shape or form.

It’s gotta be a 5 stars out of 5 from me. I haven’t had such a good bellyache of laughs since ‘Jackass Presents Bad Grandpa‘. If you are looking for comedy this film has it in bucket loads, especially the scene in the improv comedy club and the ‘that’s why sports are bad for you’ moment. Although at that you are not sure it’s right to laugh, but you do!

If this heatwave breaks, and the weather takes a turn for the worst, head off to cinemas and go and watch ‘Ted 2‘ – it will be a breath of fresh air and your sunshine.

Until next time, sit back and enjoy your refreshments as you enjoy this movie.

Ted 2‘ – out in cinema’s now.
